Hello Everyone I am Akash Vareya, I'm an Registered Nurse currently working in Medanta Hospital, Indore. I observed that after Covid-19, now dengue is keeping the Health Care Workers on its toes. wards and rooms are full and patients are making rounds to rounds to get beds Even Our Nursing staff are doing double duty as they are attending many patients beyond assigned Patients Ratio.

Why this rush heading to hospital, you must think, Are there any ways to fight against dengue or any ways to improve platelet count that the major concern. Dengue is one of the very common mosquito borne viral infections that resulting in sudden decrease in platelet count. Therefore, it is important to diagnose platelet count as early as possible to treat dengue and there is no any specific medication to treat dengue.

Why platelet count is reduced in dengue?

When an infected mosquito bites a human, the dengue virus enters to the bloodstream of our body, it binds to platelets and start replication leading to multiplication of infectious virus. The infected platelet cells tend to destroy normal platelets which is one of the major causes for the drop in the platelet count in dengue fever.

Also, bone marrow suppression by dengue results in reduced platelet counts because bone marrow is the center for the production of all blood cells including platelets too. Our blood contains a number of different cells that have various purposes in body. The cells include red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Platelets are cells that are responsible for helping the blood to clot in the event if we cut ourselves or have any bleeding anywhere else

Normally, we have around 1.5 lac to 4 lac platelets per microliter of blood. If number lesser than 1.5 lac is called thrombocytopenia that'smean you have low platelets and you should concerned about it.
